Moksha Hostel. Twenty-six strangers from around the world. A country on full lockdown. And a kitchen stocked with the kind of fresh Peruvian produce that would make any cook stop and pay attention.
Tiger Fire started as a pepper sauce built from local Peruvian varieties, aji limo and aji escabeche, bright, fruity, and nothing like what you're used to reaching for. It spread through that hostel the way all genuinely good things do: one taste, then "wait, who made this," then everyone lining up for more.
Max started trading spoonfuls for beers. Then full meals. Then actual Peruvian currency. That reputation eventually landed him a co-head chef role at a local startup called Hola Ola Point, where Tiger Fire became a staple in nearly everything they served. He was supposed to stay for a month. He stayed for six.
Back in Florida, Max converted the recipe to habanero, his all-time favorite pepper and the one that would eventually define the brand. He built out the brand with a graphic designer he'd met in Ecuador, tracked down a commercial copacker, and officially launched Tiger Fire LLC on New Year's Day 2021. The first 1,200 bottles arrived almost exactly one year after that first batch in Huanchaco.
The early distribution strategy was, let's say, creative. Our version of lemons, remember? Max sold Tiger Fire out of dime bags at local Sarasota bars, mini spoons included, serving a far more PG purpose than you might expect. He went door to door to every locally owned restaurant, shop, and grocery from Siesta Key to Anna Maria. In under three weeks, Tiger Fire was in 25 places.
Then SpaceX called. Max got hired as a Fairing Recovery Engineer and relocated to the Space Coast. The day job got considerably more interesting. The sauce didn't slow down either. On weekends he worked Brevard County with the same energy he'd brought to Sarasota, eventually landing Tiger Fire as the featured hot sauce at Coconuts on the Beach, the most iconic restaurant on Florida's Space Coast.
Rockets launching. Sauce taking off. No problems here, Houston.
Tiger Fire is now in 100+ stores and restaurants across Florida and keeps growing. Every sauce in the lineup is rooted in the Florida spot where it was born: the Habanero born in Sarasota, the Carolina Reaper born in Cocoa Beach, the Galactic Garlic born in Cape Canaveral. Each one a product of wherever we landed next and whatever flavor we couldn't get out of our heads.
More is coming. Still adventuring, still making damn good sauce, still letting life write the next chapter. Which, if you've been paying attention, is exactly how all of this started.
